Summary Description of Supplemental Outreach Initiatives

Lane College Media Intern Project
Students received hands-on training at WNWS-FM including internet
integration into the news, the on-air and production systems and
commercial productionWNWS-FM worked with the Lane College Department of
Communication
Harrell Carter was the primary contact involved in the initiative.
Steve Hemann also worked with the interns.

Jackson State Community College Internship Program
A Student from Jackson State Community College is getting 'real-life'
experience at WNWS-FM working with Jaimie Parker on the sports show from 6
p.m. to 8 p.m. weeknights gathering and reporting sports news and hosting
a talk show.

Training Lane College Communications Students
Musa S. Kamara, Ph.D. - coordinator of the Department of Mass
Communications with Lane College worked with Harrell Carter of WNWS-FM to
provide training for broadcast majors that will prepare the student for
jobs in the broadcast industry or graduate schooling.

Training Jackson State Community College Student
WNWS-FM is working to help train broadcasting students from Jackson
State to teach them some of the fundamentals about radio broadcasting.
This training is designed to help the student as they transfer to a 4-year
college to finish their degree in broadcasting and prepare them for a
career in radio.
