UPDATE Police Charge Man with Filing a False Police Report in Homicide Investigation

Jackson Police have charged James Antonio Holden, age 30, of Jackson, with Filing a False Police Report in the homicide investigation of Xavier McKinney- Hopkins. On April 2, around 1:57 a.m., Jackson Police received a call of a shooting at Lane Crest Apartments located at 905 Lane Avenue, apartment 3. Xavier McKinney-Hopkins, age 22, of Jackson, was found with multiple gunshot wounds. Mr. McKinney-Hopkins did not live at this address. It appears that there was an exchange of gunfire. He was transported to the Jackson Madison County General Hospital by E.M.S. where he underwent emergency surgery. He succumbed to his injuries and was officially pronounced dead at 7:35 that morning. James Holden was dropped off at Regional Hospital emergency room by an unidentified person around 2:53 a.m. – about an hour after McKinney-Hopkins was shot. He was admitted for multiple gunshot wounds. When investigators talked to Holden at Regional Hospital, he told them that he had been shot around 12:00 a.m., by an unidentified person, while walking down an alley near E. College Street. Holden was discharged from the hospital on April 3 around 1:00 p.m. Police questioned him further about the circumstances surrounding his shooting. He admitted that he had been at 905 Lane Avenue, apartment 3 and had been shot by an unidentified person who was attempting to rob him. Police have charged Holden with Filing a False Police Report based upon his conflicting statements. He has been set a bond of $50,000. He will be formally arraigned in Jackson City Court tomorrow morning at 8:00. Holden is a person of interest in the homicide of Mr. McKinney-Hopkins.
