On Thursday morning April 16, 2009 the Special Operations Division, which consists of the Gang Unit, the Metro Narcotics Unit, the Tactical Team, and the Street Crimes Unit, conducted a search warrant at 234 Melwood Street. Officers making entry into the residence encountered one suspect. During the search of the residence, officers located approximately 90 grams of crack cocaine and approximately 6 grams of cocaine powder. The cocaine has a street value of at least $9,000. Officers also located a .40 caliber handgun and one 12 gauge shotgun. In addition to the drugs and weapons, officers also seized ammunition, over $6,700.00 in cash, and other items from inside house.
Latoya Woodson, age 21 of Jackson, was arrested at the residence and transported to the Madison County Jail. She has been charged with Possession of Crack Cocaine with Intent to Sell or Deliver, Possession of Cocaine with Intent to Sell or Deliver, Possession of Schedule III Controlled Substance (hydrocodone) with Intent to Sell or Deliver, Possession of a Firearm in the Commission of a Drug Felony and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Ms Woodson will be arraigned in Jackson City Court tomorrow morning.
The investigation into this incident is continuing and a second suspect is being sought in connection with this case. Andra Butler, also a resident at 234 Melwood, is described as a black male, age 42. Butler is approximately 5’07 weighing approximately 190 lbs.
