Jackson Police received a report of a shooting around 2:40 this
morning after a 20-year-old woman was taken to Jackson Madison
County General Hospital.
The investigation thus far shows that the woman and her 22 -year-old
boyfriend, Randal Forrest, were riding in her vehicle on Jackson
Street near Hays Avenue. Forrest told police that he saw a man who
owed him money, and he directed his girlfriend to pull up next to him.
There was some type of exchange between Forrest and the man.
The man then pulled out a gun. Forrest and the man struggled over
the gun, which discharged and struck the woman in the leg. She was
treated and released early this morning.
Forrest told police that he did not know the man and could only
describe him as a black male in his 40's, who was dressed in dark
clothing.
