JMCS Board takes Budget and Contract Extension of Agenda

The Jackson Madison County School Board met for regular business mtg. The room was standing room only and spectators spilled out to the hall. Two significant items on the agenda did NOT occur. Board member Billy Keeton moved to take the budget off the agenda. First she stated the meeting would be during the meeting then said the board would decide on a date at a later time. She stated then she thought there was a consensus among board members even though they had never had the item up for vote and discussion not to pursue outsourcing. At the board meeting she affirmed she was opposed to outsourcing or even exploring the option. This has not always been her position. In fact she has been in the meetings reviewing the proposals and in at least one meeting expressed her frustration with the make-up of the ownership of the bidding companies. She instructed that she wanted to see the vendor list for review. Tonight she made a motion to end the option The board majority voted not to outsource or even allow the superintendent to explore the possible savings of contract custodial service.
