Police Investigate Shooting

Shortly before 10 p.m. Wednesday, Jackson police were called to a business in the 80 block of Federal Drive regarding a shooting.

James Childress, 47, of Jackson, had been shot once in the side. He was transported by ambulance to Jackson-Madison County General
Hospital.

The investigation thus far has determined that Childress and his girlfriend were at a friend's house on Wallace Cove. Childress struck
his girlfriend several times with a motorcycle helmet during an argument. The resident and friend, John Dudley, fired a warning shot
in an effort to stop Childress. When the assault continued, Dudley shot Childress in defense of the woman. Childress then drove his
motorcycle to the business and the police were notified.

Based on the current known circumstances, Dudley was not arrested.

Childress remains hospitalized in stable condition. The case is still under investigation

BACKGROUND

JACKSON TN, February 1, 2012, 22:12  2nd shooting of the night. Jackson Police responding to a call of a gunshot victim. White male arrived at Office Lounge on Fed Dr. with GS wound to stomach, advises was shot on Wallace Rd. area. Initial report indicates victim arrived on motorcycle. 56 Wallace Cove possible location of initial incident. All reports are preliminary, investigation underway.  More details to come as they are available.

JACKSON TN, February 1, 2012, 22:19 - Jackson Police Officers have a suspect in custody in connection with shooting. 56 Wallace Cove is the incident location. Victims name and condition unknown
