In response to what Mike Huckabee described as "vicious hate speech and intolerant bigotry" aimed at Chick-fil-A, the former governor of Arkansas and Fox News host announced on his Facebook page that Aug. 1 would be "Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day," Huckabee encouraged people to patronize the fast food chain.
Locally, lines formed early outside the Stonebrook Drive Chick Fil A location and business was standing room only throughout the day.
Jackson Police Department had to send units to the area to help with the tremendous traffic gridlock. At times the traffic impeded the I-40 exit ramp.
For most of the day cars lined southbound Stonebrook Drive back to Channing Way and Vann Drive past the Wal Mart north location.
By 7:25 pm the eatery announced they had sold out of all their food.
WNWS News sent out a text message to all the subscribers to our breaking news alerts and asked them to send us stories, photos, or brief comments explaining (their) reaction to ChickFilA Day.
Here are some of those emails. I will continue to post (content appropriate) responses as they are received.

"So glad supreme court does not speak for people in Jackson Tn. Go chick fillet." Darrin P
"I got stuck in the traffic at lunch on Channing Way and the bypass. I didn't realize it was Chick-fil-a holding up things." Jennifer R
"This had nothing to do with gay people or gay marraige. It had to do with free speech, government getting involved where it shouldn't and the media constantly berating anything-Christian. But feel free to state it was all about gay bashing. This is what we expect from the media any more......misinformation and agenda." Bill M
"Jesus warned us that as the end of time draws near that we would see this. I just reaffirms my faith that these things are being fulfilled. 2 scriptures come to mind which I will post below. I am so glad to see the outpouring of support for Chic-fil-a. I am also very disappointed in our President for speaking his opinion on the matter which to me is what has started this. As if we didn't have enough problems already." Steve S
"you want some opinions? heres one: its a sad day in this country when bigots show up in droves to support the denial of human rights to people based on sexual orientation. not too long ago the civil liberties of african americans was being denied. now, with historical perspective, what do we think of those denying their rights? shame on those who support denying human rights to people. shame on jackson tn for showing such high levels of support. and shame on chickfila." Gary M
"My family ate lunch today at the Chik Fil A in the Jackson Madison County hospital today where my dad works. The manager there is also a member of our church at Englewood Baptist Church and he said they have been swamped all day. His wife who was also there said that buisness has been like that for the last couple days. My husband said during lunch that with as busy as they are that they'll probably run out of food. Me and our parents disagreed. Well we were wrong! I think it's amazing the turn out and support that the community has shown. I most definitely agree with the restaurants beliefs and love how he boldly stood up for what he and the company believes." Marci B
"Eat more chicken!" Not even my 2 year old was grumpy waiting for his food tonight." Michelle B
