Police Charge Man with Armed Robbery of Pizza Delivery Driver

Jackson police have charged Winfred Johnson, of Jackson, with aggravated robbery in connection with a Sunday night robbery of a pizza delivery driver.

Police were called about the robbery at 10:42 p.m. Sunday. The driver was making a delivery at a home on the 800 block of West King Street. The driver was flagged down by a man standing near the street. The man pulled out his wallet and acted as if he was about to pay for the pizza. He then pulled out a gun and demanded money.

The delivery driver gave the man cash money. The man then ran toward the University of Memphis Lambuth campus. Shortly afterward, police stopped a man, on campus, matching the description of the robber. The man, Winfred Johnson, was subsequently identified as the robber, and the money was recovered.

Police did not find the gun.

Police charged Johnson, 21, with aggravated robbery. He was arraigned Monday morning in Jackson City Court and is being held at the Madison County jail on $75,000 bond. His next scheduled court appearance is November 15 in City Court.
