City Announces Closure of "Nuisance Nightclub"

The City of Jackson today announced that it has agreed with the owners of Hale Street Disco,

located at 303 Hale Street in Jackson, that the owners and tenants of the premises are prohibited from

selling beer or alcohol for five years.

City attorney Lewis Cobb stated, “This closes one more dangerous nightclub, which was

operating illegally and in violation of city code and state law.”

The city brought a nuisance action to close the club a month ago. In addition to preparing

and selling food without the proper equipment, club patrons and employees were engaged in the

illegal sale of alcohol and gambling.

Today we reached an agreement with owners Robert Cantrell and Helen Cantrell to close

the premises,” said Cobb. “We are glad the property owners sought and agreed to a mutually

beneficial resolution in order to keep the citizens of Jackson safe. This action will reduce the amount

of violence and crime associated with these nightclubs.”
