JMC School Board Approves Open Enrollment for Next School Year, Will Hold Public Forum Next Week

School Board approves open enrollment on first reading, waves second reading, discusses the new superintendent salary, sets December meeting schedule, and announces a public hearing.

Jackson Madison County School board members will host a public meeting to get community input on qualities and responsibilities to look for in a new superintendent and hear ideas for the future of the public system.

The meeting will be Monday, November 12, 6:00 PM at the Jackson Madison County School Central Office. 

To be heard you will have to be on the sign in sheet and comments will be limited to three minutes in length.

Board members approved on first reading the open registration policy and waved a second reading.  The action allows central office to begin developing a plan to implement for the 2013-2014 school year.

Members had discussion regarding the search for a new superintendent.  They agreed to post a salary range of $150,000. as a starting point but added that some candidates might not require that much while others might require more.  A committee will be appointed to discuss and recommend a compensation package which could include incentives that would make the range closer to $180,000 - $190,000 annually.

Important dates to know regarding the superintendent search include: November 12, 6:00 PM Public Hearing, December 3, 6:00 PM school board work session, December 6, 6:00 PM school board meeting, December 10, school board introduced to candidates, 1st round interviews will begin that week.
