Don’t send your Christmas tree off to a landfill. “Recycling your tree is a wonderful Christmas tradition for families to start.” said Carol Emery, ‘Chipping of the Green’ Project Chairwoman.
Keep Jackson Beautiful will be accepting trees December 27th-January 14th at drop-off locations in North and South Jackson. The North Jackson drop-off site is 187 Stonebrook Place at the parking lot behind Petco.
The South Jackson drop-off location is 720 S. Highland at the City’s Fire Station Training Center in front of the Jackson Fairgrounds. You may also call 425-8578 till January 12th for curbside pickup of your Christmas tree.
On Saturday, January 14th from 9:00-11:00 a.m. Keep Jackson Beautiful Members and Master Gardener volunteers will provide the manpower to turn your old tree into small wood chips perfect for garden pathways or for composting. The wood chips will be bagged and available for pickup by the public at no charge on the day of the chipping. Only live trees are being accepted. Lights and ornaments should be removed, so trees can be fed through the chipping machine. “Last year approximately 800 trees were recycled rather than being discarded into the landfill. It is part of the Keep Jackson Beautiful’s efforts to reduce, reuse, and recycle program.” said Jacobs Director of KJB.
