On June 20 around 11:30 p.m., Jackson police received a report of a shooting at Days Inn, 2239 Hollywood Drive. Curtis Pettigrew, 32, of Jackson, suffered multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to a local hospital by EMS where he was admitted.
While investigating the crime scene, police found a loaded semiautomatic handgun on the sidewalk in front of a room.
At the hospital, police found a box of bullets in Pettigrew's pants pocket, which were the same caliber as were found in the gun. Pettigrew was convicted of violent felonies in 1997 and 2001 in
Jackson.
Upon release from the hospital, he will be charged with being a Convicted Felon in Possession of a Firearm.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting are still under investigation.
