TEACHER OF THE YEAR AWARDS ANNOUNCED

The West Tennessee Healthcare Foundation presented two “Teacher of the Year” awards today at the Jackson-Madison County School Board.  Vicki Cummings who has taught at Malessus Elementary for more than 16 years was chosen in the Kindergarten through Sixth Grade category and Becky Fly who is a teacher at Madison Academic and has more than 18 years of teaching experience was chosen in the Seventh Grade through Twelfth Grade category. Both teachers received a $1,000 check and beautiful crystal awards from the West Tennessee Healthcare Foundation.  Frank McMeen, President of the West Tennessee Healthcare Foundation, says the community nominated the teachers and a committee from the Leadership Jackson Aumni Association chose the winners. The Jackson-Madison County Teacher of the Year Awards were begun in 2004 by the Foundation to recognize excellence in the classroom.  Working with the county school system, the Foundation works through the year to make the awards presentation possible. Dr. Nancy Zambito, Frank McMeen and the Leadership Jackson committee were all on hand today to make the presentation.  Keith Absher, Hope Cooper and Jack Mathis were also present to congratulate the recipients.
