14 convicted sex offenders were arrested over the last four weeks for violations of the sex offender registry law in a joint effort between the Crime Intelligence Analysis Unit, The Violent Crimes Unit, The Gang Enforcement Team and the Street Crimes Unit. The violations include failure to report, failure to pay fees, failure to report changes of information, and living too close to a school or daycare The law requires all convicted sex offenders to register and report on either a yearly or quarterly basis depending on their classification. The offender must keep the registering agency up to date on all addresses, employment locations, vehicles they own and/or drive, any e-mail addresses or electronic names or monikers, next of kin, phone numbers alternate addresses, arrests and incarcerations and a whole list of other items. It is also a violation for any convicted sex offender, whose victim was a minor, to knowingly establish a primary or secondary residence or any other living accommodation, knowingly obtain sexual offender treatment or attend a sexual offender treatment program or knowingly accept employment within one thousand feet (1,000') of the property line of any public school, private or parochial school, licensed day care center, other child care facility, public park, playground, recreation center or public athletic field available for use by the general public. The first violation is punishable by a fine of not less than three hundred fifty dollars ($350), and imprisonment for not less than ninety (90) days. A second violation is punishable by a fine of not less than six hundred dollarsv($600), and imprisonment for not less than one hundred eighty (180) days. A third or subsequent violation is punishable by a fine of not less than one thousand one hundred dollars ($1,100), and imprisonment for not less than one (1) year.
