TWO ARRESTS MADE IN CONNECTION WITH SEARCH WARRANTS CONDUCTED IN THE CENTRAL JACKSON AREA

The Jackson Police Department’s Gang Enforcement Team along with other members of the Special Operations Division conducted search warrants on Wednesday September 16, 2009 and Thursday, September 17, 2009 from information received in connection with last Sunday’s double homicide that occurred on the parking lot of the Hollywood Shopping Center outside J Mumbly’s nightclub.  As a result of these warrants, officers seized 5 firearms, 135 grams of marijuana, 1 gram of crack cocaine, ammunition and other drug paraphernalia.  At this point in the investigation 2 persons have charged but other arrests are expected. Yesterday morning around 7:45 AM, officers executed a search warrant at 133 Glendale St.  During the search officers located approximately 135 grams of marijuana, 1 gram of crack cocaine, drug paraphernalia, and 2 handguns.  At this time investigators have a person of interest in connection with this warrant, however no one has been arrested or charged at this time. This morning at approximately 6:30 AM, officers executed a search warrant at 40 Honeysuckle Dr.  During the search of the residence officers located 3 firearms, ammunition, and drug paraphernalia. Officers have arrested Daniel Cole, age 30, of E. Baltimore Street in Jackson, and Prentiss Chatman, age 34, of Dillon Road in Denmark, TN.   Officers are working with the United States Attorney’s Office and as a result federal complaints have been issued for these two individuals for federal firearms charges. These search warrants are part of the ongoing effort to assist in the investigation of the double homicide that occurred on Sunday morning around 5:00 AM.  The Gang Enforcement Team and the remaining members of the Special Operations Division, which includes the Street Crimes Unit, the Metro Narcotics Unit, the Narcotics Impact Squad, the Tactical Team and the Aviation Unit, will continue to maintain a very strong presence on the streets of Jackson until this investigation is complete and will actively address and identify criminal gang activity and pursue all information that is received concerning gang activity, especially as it relates to the incident this past weekend.
