Police Arrest Second Man in Robbery and Identity Theft

Theodus Mario Whitmore, 39, of Brownsville, was arrested around 10:30 a.m. today in Memphis by the Memphis Police Department. He is scheduled to be formally arraigned tomorrow morning in Jackson City Court on charges of Robbery and Identity Theft. Martral Seaberry, 23, of Brownsville, was arrested on July 27 and remains in custody at the Madison County Jail in lieu of $75,000 bond. RECAP: On July 22 around 5:23 p.m., Jackson police received a call of a robbery. An 81-year-old man had just entered the vestibule of Kroger at 941 N. Parkway when a man, later identified by investigators as Theodus Mario Whitmore, walked up behind him and put both hands in each of the victim's pockets. When the victim turned around, Whitmore told the victim to "shut up". Whitmore took his wallet and ran away. About 20 minutes later, Whitmore and another man, identified as Martral Seaberry, 23, of Brownsville, entered Highland Express at 2325 N. Highland Avenue and attempted to purchase beer with the robbery victim's credit card. The clerk became suspicious and asked to see identification. Seaberry showed him a U.S. passport that did not match the name on the credit card. When the clerk questioned him further, he told the clerk that the credit card belonged to his father at Kroger. When the clerk voided the transaction and threatened to call police, both men left.
