The Jackson Madison County School Board will meet tonight for their regular session.
Among the items on the agenda
Election of new officers including chairperson, vice-chair, and parliamentarian
Attorney Richard Fields is scheduled to address the board about items concerning the Unitary Status lawsuit including what he says are actions that show a pattern of bias against JCM by the Superintendent. I spoke exclusively with Attorney Fields and here is what he told me. He will ask for an investigation of a 2008 incident where gas was poured down a drain of a maintenance shed at JCM and he will ask why the superintendent did not go to the school. He will raise questions about an incident involving a student who was allowed to leave JCM early and walk home (
according to Fields her home is near the Family Fun Center in North Jackson) and that while walking home the student was attacked by a dog. Fields questions why the superintendent, in his opinion, did nothing including not visit the child.
He is also going to notify the board of his intention to file suit based on race discrimination against the superintendent and the school board for not rehiring former asst principal Jeffery Herron after he was made to reapply after the Fresh Start at JCM and for hiring former JCM Assistant Principal Diane Wesson as a teacher instead of as an assistant principal.
After attending the walk-thru at JCM last week Fields is also expected to call for an investigation into the presence of asbestos in JCM and all the schools in the district, especially those built prior 1970. He is going to call for JCM to be razed and a new High School to be built.
