This couple was staying in Chester County, NOT Gibson County, at the time of the event. The husband was out on bond at the time related to a domestic violence charge from the Chester County jail. The suspect was shot multiple times but not 12 - 13. The suspect has NOT been charged but charges are anticipated.
Capt Dennis Cagle has passed away
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has confirmed Henderson police Capt. Dennis Cagle has died Sunday morning.
Capt. Dennis Cagle was shot once center body mass Thursday evening around 8 p.m. at a Sav-A-Lot grocery store in Chester County. According to sources a customer was in the store and called 911 during the robbery attempt. Capt Cagle and a Chester County Deputy were the first to arrive. Cagle and the deputy both exchanged gunfire with the suspect.
The suspect Ricky Steward, 48, has not been officially charged but it is anticipated that he will be charged with the attempted robbery and murder of Capt Dennis Cagle. Steward received multiple gunshot wounds and remains in critical but stable condition at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
Steward's wife, Cheryl, 49, was arrested and is in Chester County Jail awaiting charges related to the aggravated robbery and homicide. Sources confirm that the husband Ricky Steward was out on bond from the Chester County jail on a domestic violence charge. The couple were allegedly staying in Chester County.
According to John Mehr Special Agent with the TBI more charges are likely pending for the couple.
