Traffic Stop Leads to Discovery of Meth Lab at South Madison County Home

02-25-10   On  Tuesday at approximately 9:30 PM, investigators with the Metro Narcotics Unit stopped a vehicle on Highway 45 South in the Pinson area.  The driver, 30 year old Bobby Joe Pittman, of 48 North Avenue in Jackson, had a suspended driver’s license.  Investigators located precursor chemicals and equipment, which had just been purchased, that are used in the manufacture of methamphetamine.  There were two other occupants in the vehicle at the time of the stop.  They were identified as 24 year old Tasha Ann Presley of 108 Mason Street, Jackson, and 33 year old Teresa Lynn Cox, of 4261 Highway 45 South Pinson. Investigators were led to the Highway 45 South home of Ms. Cox and her husband, Timothy.  After a search of the premises, investigators located several duffel bags behind the home.  The bags each contained the various components of a meth lab.  Investigators contacted the D.E.A., who arranged to have a hazardous materials contractor come to the scene to dispose of the toxic materials.  Investigators also found two children in the home; a 10 year old belonging to the Cox’s and an 18 month old belonging to Pittman and Presley.  All four adults were transported to the Madison County Jail.  The children were placed in the temporary custody of the Department of Children’s Services.  Mr. Pittman and Ms. Presley also claimed to live in the home with the Cox’s. Pittman, Presley and Cox are facing charges of Promotion of Methamphetamine Manufacture, Manufacture of Methamphetamine, and Felony Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.  Pittman faces an additional charge of Driving on A Suspended License.  Mr. Cox faces charges of Manufacturing Methamphetamine and Felony Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.  They are currently being held in the Madison County Jail and will appear in Madison County General Sessions Court.  Investigators are working with the Department of Children’s Services to determine if additional charges will be filed. This is the 14th clandestine lab seized by the Metro Narcotics Unit so far this year.  That matches the total for all of 2009.
