Madison County Sheriff tells News/Talk the jury deliberated for about two hours Wednesday afternoon in the trial of Ladarren Hawkins before returning with a verdict of guilty of first-degree murder and tampering with evidence.
Hawkins was convicted of the January 28 2009 homicide of 19-year-old Jerome Ellington. Hawkins defense was that he shot Ellington in self defense. Ellington was shot in the chest with a sawed-off shotgun that Hawkins brought, he said for protection.
