Deadly Accident for Jackson Teen

Around 5:35 this evening Jackson Police and EMS received a call of a child who had fallen at the Bemis Mill at #1 A Street. The investigation has determined that Christopher Devin Alford, 14, of Jackson and a 16-year-old friend had crawled through a small opening and gained access into a smokestack. They then climbed a ladder inside the smokestack. Alford fell about 80 feet from the top of ladder. The 16-year-old was not injured and ran to get help. Alford was transported to Jackson-Madison County General Hospital and was pronounced dead around 6:20 p.m. Based on the investigation by police and the county medical examiner's office, the cause of death was internal injuries and the manner of death was accidental.
