Wednesday April 14, 2010, shortly after 1:00 p.m., Metro-Narcotics received a call from a local pharmacy regarding individuals purchasing Sudafed. The pharmacist stated that they recognized the individuals as having purchased Sudafed in the past.
A short time later, officers located the suspect vehicle. The suspect(s) were stopped on 45 South. As officers approached the vehicle, suspect(s) fled and officers pursued until the driver abandoned his vehicle on Simmons Road and fled on foot into a wooded area. A Metro Narcotics officer gave chase and struggled with the suspect over the officer’s weapon. During the struggle, the officer fatally shot the suspect.
Three suspects were taken into custody and are presently being held at the Criminal Justice Complex/Jail.
The officer, a Madison County deputy sheriff assigned to Metro Narcotics, is presently being treated for what appears to be minor injuries at the Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
