BACKGROUND
On February 2 around 1:30 a.m., Jackson Police received a call of a shooting. Investigation determined that a 46-year-old Jackson man and his 23-year-old son were sitting in a Chevy Tahoe at an apartment complex at 201 McRee Street. Antwan Watkins, who was an acquaintance, got in the vehicle with them, pulled out a handgun and told both men to get out. The 23-year-old got out and ran. Watkins got out behind him and began shooting, striking him at least once. Watkins then shot the 46-year-old man while he sat in the driver's seat. He was only able to drive a short distance to the 700 block of East College Street. He eventually got out of the Tahoe and made his way to the intersection of East College Street and Hays Avenue where officers found him on the ground.
The 23-year-old suffered a gunshot wound to his lower-back and his father was shot in the stomach. Both men were transported by ambulance to Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
