Jackson Police have charged Akeem Crymes, 18, of Lincoln Courts in Jackson, in connection with this morning's incident. He is scheduled to be formally arraigned in Jackson City Court, Friday at 8: 00 a.m. on charges of Aggravated Burglary, Aggravated Kidnapping, Carjacking, Leaving the Scene of an Accident and Driving on a Suspended License.
Around 6:20 this morning a Jackson Police Officer was flagged down by a 29-year-old woman near the intersection of North Royal and Preston Street.
Investigation determined that the woman was inside her home in the 100 block of Rosedale Street when Dontavious Reid knocked on her door looking for her boyfriend who was not there at the time. He forced his way in and insisted that her boyfriend owed him money. Reid attempted to take personal property from the woman and they struggled. He then forced the woman to her vehicle where Crymes was sitting in the driver's seat of the woman's SUV. Reid pointed a handgun at the woman, threatened to kill her and demanded that she take them to her boyfriend while Crymes drove.
The woman was able to escape the vehicle and flag the police officer down. She immediately pointed to her vehicle that was speeding away. She was not injured.
Police were able to locate her vehicle, which had crashed in Lincoln Courts. Investigation led officers to an apartment on Labelle Street where Crymes was taken into custody.
Police are still seeking Dontavious Reid, 19, of Jackson. He is a black male, around 5' 8" and weighs about 160 pounds. He should be considered armed and dangerous.
Anyone with information on this incident or Reid's whereabouts is asked to contact the Jackson Police Department Violent Crimes Unit at 731-425-8400 or Crime Stoppers at 731-425-8477 (TIPS).
