JMCS special called mtg approves requesting funds for a new JCM & other school projects. Hires ex-supt Roy Weaver as project consultant

January 27th the Jackson Madison County School Board met and heard a presentation from Madison Co. Mayor Jimmy Harris about the possibility of stimulus dollars coming to Madison County for certain projects. He requested the board take formal action to request the Mayor’s office pursue potential stimulus money for a new school and or school projects. Mayor Harris emphasized these be shovel ready goals. His discussion centered around projects already on the drawing board that the system could act on quickly. At that meeting board member Dave Bratcher made a motion the board formally request Mayor Harris request stimulus money for a new school. The motion failed 4 – 2 opposed.

One week later

February 2 - Jackson Madison County School Board in a special called meeting approves requesting funds for a new JCM & other school projects. Hires ex-superintendent Roy Weaver as consultant. The board acted quickly to approve a motion that failed just one week ago

The meeting opened with a statement from board member Billy Keeton.

Not all the board members were in agreement. The vote was 7 -1 in favor. Linda Pride had concerns that she addressed to the board AFTER the vote.

No word on when Roy Weaver will start or what his consultant salary will be. School Board member Keeton answered member Dave Bratcher when he asked that question after the vote to hire.

Last week the board held a special called mtg to discuss spending and salaries. Dr. Zambito has already had to take 100,000 dollars out of the budget to help pay the costs of the consultants the State had promised to pay as a result of the failure to meet No Child Left Behind.

Mr Weaver served as a consultant once before for the JMCSS when he was paid an extra year salary to assist Dr. Nancy Zambito and the board in the Superintendent transition.
