Jackson Madison County School Board Retreat for Saturday has been canceled. Four Board members Estes, Rowan, Akins, Pride have had schedule conflicts.
As of the time of this story no details of these board members conflicts was known.
The board retreat is an annual event. At a School Board Mtg several months ago Dr. Greene of the Unv. of Memphis, and one of the consultants working for the State on Corrective Action for JMCS, highly recommended to the board that they plan an extra day for their retreat and have consultants present a training and information program specifically for the board. Dr. Connie Smith of the State Dept of Ed. emphasized that everyone from the board out was going to have to work together to get our system out of corrective status. That retreat has paired down from the suggested two days to a one day retreat which last month the board scheduled for February 28th.
No State Dept of Ed presenters where ever scheduled however TSBA did have a training period scheduled which included:
8:30 – 11:00 – Dr. Phillip White, TSBA
· Powers and duties of school board members
· Legal authority of Director of Schools
· Do’s and Don’ts of school board operations
The announcement of the cancellation only said the mtg would be rescheduled
