MARTIN, Tenn. (AP) — Reuben Clayton scored 23 points and Tennessee-Martin pulled away from Centenary in the second half for a 79-56 win Monday night.
Clayton was 7 for 15 from the field and made 7 of 10 free throws.
The score was tied three times in the first half before Tennessee-Martin (2-0) built an 11-point lead.
The Gentlemen (0-2) closed the gap to 36-30 at halftime and got within four points early in the second half.
Leading 53-48 with 11:28 to go, the Skyhawks went on a 12-0 run capped by a Benzor Simmons 3-pointer to build a commanding lead.
Mike Liabo added 16 points for Tennessee-Martin and Simmons had 12.
The Skyhawks shot 48.2 percent from the field (27 of 56) while holding the Gentlemen to 33.3 percent (16 of 48) and scored 25 points off turnovers.
Roman Tubner led Centenary with 13 points, Jeron Trotman added 11 points and Maxx Nakwaasah had 12 rebounds.
