Tennessee's Simmons named SEC freshman of week

Tennessee guard Meighan Simmons has been named the Southeastern Conference's freshman of the week. The guard led No. 8 Tennessee to a 99-55 win over Lamar and a 74-44 win over Old Dominion on the road. She had a career-high 28 points in her first start at point guard and hit a single-game school record eight 3-pointers against Lamar. That ranks as the sixth-best total by a Lady Vol freshman. Simmons had 14 points against Old Dominion. She leads the Lady Vols and is second in scoring with 16.8 points per game.
