MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Memphis is now tied at the top of Conference USA but it took a 73-51 win over Rice in a game that saw multiple players ejected for fighting. Memphis guard Joe Jackson was fouled hard in the second half by Rice's Tamir Jackson. He was ejected, as were Will Barton and Trey Draper of Memphis for leaving the bench.
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — The Tennessee Lady Vols are struggling in record fashion. They scored the fewest points in program history in Monday's loss to No. 2 Notre Dame and Tennessee had an extended practice on Wednesday. The Lady Vols visit Alabama on Thursday.
SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) — Notre Dame has hired Harry Hiestand to coach its offensive line and coordinate the running game. Hiestand spent the past two years at Tennessee after working with the offensive line for the Chicago Bears from 2005-09.
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Coach Justin Fuente has filled out his Tigers' offensive staff by hiring Darrell Dickey away from Texas State as his offensive coordinator, bringing him back to Memphis. Dickey was offensive coordinator at Memphis from 1987 through 1989 when the Tigers beat Alabama in 1987 and Florida in 1988.
