MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — The Memphis Grizzlies are in position to secure home-court advantage in the first round of the playoffs. The Grizzlies will lock up the No. 4 seed in the Western Conference with a win at home on Thursday against Orlando. Memphis gets the opportunity because the Los Angeles Clippers lost on Wednesday to the Knicks.
NEW YORK (AP) — Nashville Predators goalie Pekka Rinne (PEH'-kuh RIH'-nuh) is again a finalist for the NHL's Vezina (VEH'-zih-nuh) Trophy. Rinne went 43-18-8 this season for Nashville. He also was a Vezina finalist last season, finishing second to Boston's Tim Thomas.
BRISTOL, Tenn. (AP) — Bruton Smith is removing some of the banking at Bristol Motor Speedway in response to fan complaints that the racing was boring at the once-beloved track. The speedway that holds 160,000 was roughly half full last month. The low attendance has been a continuing trend for the track since a 2007 reconfiguration.
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (AP) — Coach Kermit Davis has agreed to a five-year contract extension with Middle Tennessee that runs through the 2016-17 season. Davis took the Blue Raiders to a school-record 27 wins this season and was the Sun Belt Conference coach of the year.
