Generals bounce back with 8-3 win Chris Pettit leads Jackson's 14-hit effor with 4 knocks

MONTGOMERY, ALA. (JULY 8, 2012) - The Generals pounded out 14 hits and evened the series with Montgomery Sunday night with an 8-3 victory at Riverwalk Stadium. The win forces the rubber match on Monday night at 7:05. The Generals are currently 3-2 on the 2-city, 6-game road trip. Stefen Romero extended his hitting streak to 9 games Sunday and has added an RBI in each of his last five games.

Chris Pettit started his big 4-hit night with an single scoring Kalian Sams to give Jackson a 1-0 lead. Nate Tenbrink followed with an RBI groundout to make it 2-0. Romero capped off the 3-run inning with a single that scored Pettit.

Jackson added two more to take a 5-0 advantage in the top of the fourth. Pettit singled home Sams and Gabriel Noriega scored on a wild pitch by Montgomery starter Jake Thompson.

Montgomery trimmed the lead to 5-3 with a run in the fifth and two in the seventh, but scored no more.

Jackson put the game out of reach in the top of the eighth inning on another Romero RBI single and 2-run laser home run from Joe Dunigan. The homer was Dunigan's 16th on the season and placed Jackson on top for good, 8-3.

James Paxton started the game for Jackson but did not factor in the decision. Paxton tossed 4.1 innings and allowed 1 run on 6 hits. Paxton struck out 8 and walked just 1 in his second start since coming off the DL. Montgomery starter Jake Thompson suffered the loss giving up 5 runs on 10 hits over 5.0 innings pitched.

Generals' reliever Yoervis Medina earned a hold by tossing two scoreless innings in the seventh and eighth while striking out two.

Chris Pettit paced the Generals offense with his second straight multi-hit game. Pettit was 4-for-6 with 2 RBI and a run scored. Stefen Romero was 3-for-5 with 2 RBI and a run scored. Rich Poythress and Chih-Hsien Chiang pitched in two hits each.

The Generals wrap up their three-game series with Montgomery and six-game road trip on Monday night at Riverwalk Stadium, with first pitch at 7:05 p.m. LHP Anthony Fernandez (3-0, 1.08) will make the start for Jackson against former Vandy RHP Matt Buschmann (3-3, 3.86) for the Biscuits.
