Generals Win Fourth Straight Over Smokies Rich Poythress homers in second straight game for Jackson

JACKSON, TENN. (AUGUST 7, 2012) - The Generals won their fourth Tuesday over the Smokies at Pringles Park, 10-4. The Generals finished the 24-game season series with Tennessee, going 17-7. Jackson took advantage of 11 walks dished out by Smokies pitching which matched a season high. The Generals (25-19, 67-47) are back to 20-games over .500 on the year.

The Generals started out behind for the fourth time in the series when Tennessee scored in the first inning. Matt Szczur led-off with a triple and scored on a ground out by Junior Lake.

However, the Smokies' lead did not last long. With the bases loaded and no outs, Joe Dunigan (1x5, 3 RBI) lined a 2-RBI single to right field. Rich Poythress (.299 AVG) followed with a 3-run shot over the left field wall, his third homer of the year. Jesus Sucre (4x5, 3 R) and Nate Tenbrink hit back-to-back doubles with Sucre scoring to make the score 6-1 Jackson.

Tennessee scored one run in the fifth inning after a lead-off triple by Matt Cerda. Jackson answered with two runs of their own in the bottom of the fifth. Stefen Romero was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, and Joe Dunigan added his third RBI on a ground out.

Both teams scored two runs in the sixth inning to set the final score of 10-4 Jackson.

LHP James Paxton earned his seventh win of the season after 5 2/3 innings of work. Paxton (7-3, 3.31) allowed 4 earned runs on 7 hits and 3 walks while striking out five.

The Generals will travel to Montgomery, Ala., on Wednesday to begin a five-game series against the Biscuits. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05. LHP Anthony Fernandez (4-1, 2.73) will start for Jackson against RHP Merrill Kelly (6-2, 3.61) for Montgomery.
