Generals split double-header with BayBears Jackson is two back of Chattanooga in 2nd half standings

MOBILE, ALA. (AUGUST 20, 2012) - Rich Poythress was 3-for-6 with two homers and three RBI Monday as Jackson split a double-header with Mobile at Hank Aaron Stadium. The Generals won game one, 4-2 and dropped game two 4-3. The Generals are now 72-43 overall and 31-26 in the second half, trailing Chattanooga by two games.

Game 1: Generals 4, Mobile 2

Rich Poythress put the Generals on top quickly with a solo homer to left with two outs in the top of the first inning.

Each time the Generals scored, Mobile seemingly had an answer. With the game tied 1-1 in the third, Brad Miller plated Francisco Martinez with a single to left, giving Jackson a 2-1 edge.

Again the BayBears tied the game, getting an RBI single from Matt Davidson in the bottom of the third inning.

The tie game was short lived as Mike Zunino belted a solo homer in the top of the fourth inning. Chih-Hsien Chiang drove in a fourth run in the sixth inning with a single and Jackson led and won 4-2.

James Paxton (8-4) earned the victory in a quality start, 6.0 innings pitched, allowing 2 runs on 7 hits, walking 2 and striking out 6. Logan Bawcom pitched a scoreless seventh earning his second Jackson save and 16th overall this season. David Holmberg (4-5) took the loss for Mobile.

The Generals picked up eight hits, but no General collected a multi-hit game.

Game 2: Mobile 4, Generals 3

The Generals used the home run ball again in game two, getting a solo shot from Joe Dunigan in the second inning, taking a 1-0 lead.

Mobile sent eight batters to the plate in the fifth inning and picked up RBI singles from Alfredo Marte, Matt Davidson and Brent Clevlen. The BayBears scored four runs in the inning and led 4-1.

The homer party wasn't over though as Rich Poythress belted his second homer of the day and fifth of the year in the sixth inning, a two runs shot that trimmed the deficit to 4-3. But that score would be the final.

Jackson starter Anthony Fernandez (4-2) suffered the loss allowing 4 runs (3 earned) on 6 hits, walking 2 and striking out 5. Mobile starter Derek Eitel (8-10) picked up the win.

Rich Poythress was 2-for-3 in game two, while Brad Miller was also 2-for-3 with a walk. Jackson out-hit the BayBears in game two, 10-7.

The Generals continue their 10-game road trip and five-game series in Mobile on Tuesday with game three of the set.
