Vols Offense Shines; Titans Prepare To Host Patriots

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — The loss of Da'Rick Rogers apparently won't limit Tennessee's ability to produce big plays. Tennessee's 35-21 victory over North Carolina State showed the Volunteers have plenty of firepower even without Rogers, a former all-Southeastern Conference receiver who transferred to Tennessee Tech after Tennessee indefinitely suspended him.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — The Titans want their preseason performance to carry over now that all the games count. Tennessee gave up the fewest quarterback sacks, led the NFL with eight interceptions and topped the AFC in fewest points allowed. Now everyone's record is 0-0 and the New England Patriots will be a completely different challenge in the opener.

ATLANTA (AP) — Authorities say a 20-year-old man who plunged about 35 feet from the Georgia Dome's upper level and struck another fan during the Tennessee-North Carolina State game has died. The operator of the downtown Atlanta football stadium says the man fell on another fan seated in the mezzanine area Friday.

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. (AP) — The 300-win club's newest member already is thinking about No. 301. Carson-Newman coach Ken Sparks earned his 300th career coaching victory with a 56-46 triumph over Glenville (W.Va.) State. Sparks is tied with former Delaware coach Tubby Raymond for 10th place in career wins.
