NFL's Opening Day...Woman official working in Detroit...New college football poll

UNDATED (AP) — Twenty-six NFL teams will play their season opener before the day is done. The No. 1 pick in this year's draft, Andrew Luck, is quarterbacking the Indianapolis Colts against the Bears in Chicago.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — A little more than eight months after major surgery on his left knee, and after lobbying all summer to play, Adrian Peterson is on Minnesota's active roster for today's game against Jacksonville. The Vikings have said that the veteran running back would see limited action if he suited up.

DETROIT (AP) — Shannon Eastin has made NFL history. The 42-year-old resident of Tempe, Ariz., is serving as the line judge in today's St. Louis Rams-Detroit Lions game, making her the first woman to be an official in a regular-season game. The league has locked out the regular on-field officials over a contract dispute.

NEW YORK (AP) — Alabama, Southern Cal, LSU and Oregon remain 1 through 4 in the new AP college footballpoll after posting victories on Saturday. Arkansas tumbles out of the Top 25 from No. 8 following an overtime loss to Louisiana-Monroe.

BALTIMORE (AP) — The Yankees report that slugger Mark Teixeira (teh-SHEHR'-uh) could be lost for the season. The club says the veteran first baseman aggravated a leg injury on the final play of last night's one-run loss at Baltimore. It was Teixeira's first appearance following a 10-day absence caused by a strained left calf.
