Generals rout Lookouts 8-2, advance to SL Championsip Jackson in Southern League Championship Series for first time since 2005

CHATTANOOGA, TENN. (SEPTEMBER 9, 2012) - The Generals knocked off the Lookouts in Chattanooga, 8-2 and win the North Division Series, 3-1. Jackson advances to the Southern League Championship Series for the first time since 2005. The Generals pounded out 18 hits on Sunday and finished the North Division Series with 45 hits in four games, batting .326.The Generals scored first in the second inning on a two out RBI single by Brad Miller that scored Nate Tenbrink.Tenbrink followed his first run with a solo homer to right in the fourth inning, making the score 2-0.Jackson added two more runs in the sixth inning on a two out bases loaded single by Chih-Hsien Chiang.The Lookouts cut the lead in half during the bottom of the sixth inning, getting RBI doubles from Luis Nunez and Jake Lemmerman.Again Jackson loaded the bases in the eighth inning and Rich Poythress delivered an RBI single to make the score 5-2.Mike Zunino delivered the knockout punch in the ninth inning with a two out 3-run homer to left giving Jackson an 8-2 advantage. The homer was the third from Zunino in the series.Francisco Martinez and Chih-Hsien Chiang finished the game Sunday 3-for-4 while Stefen Romero, Brad Miller and Mike Zunino had two hits. Nate Tenbrink was 3-for-5, scoring three runs. Jackson tied their season high 2012 with 16 runners left on base.Jackson starter Anthony Fernandez (1-0) earned the win Sunday and allowed 2 runs on 4 hits in 5.2 innings. He struck out 4 and walked 2. Yoervis Medina and Logan Bawcom combined for 3.1 scoreless innings of relief. Chattanooga starter Andres Santiago took the loss.The Generals will begin the Southern League Championship Series on Tuesday night at Pringles Park against the Mobile BayBears, with first pitch at 6:05 p.m. The Playoffs are presented by Chick-Fil-A.
