Union men’s golf in second place after first round at NCCAA Nationals

PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. – The Union University men’s golf team is in second place after the first round in the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) National Tournament. The three round event is being played at The Hombre Golf Course in Panama City Beach and included 18 teams from the NCAA and NAIA.

Union (+2, 290) trails the leader, Oklahoma Christian University (-8, 280) by 10 strokes. Oklahoma Christian won the NAIA National Title in 2009 and 2011 and was the national runner-up in 2010 and 2012.

Union has a three shot lead over third place Roberts Wesleyan (Okla.) University.

Brett Barry, Union’s senior golfer from Jackson, is tied for fifth place after his first round. Barry is at 2-under par (70). He trails Vilhelm Bosgstrand of Oklahoma Christian (-6) who leads the event.

The other Union golfers are Kody Alexander (E) in a tie for 11th place, Bryce Doughty (+2) and Kyle Long (+2) in a tie for 22nd place, and Ben Waits (+8) in a tie for 64th place.

Union will tee off in their second round Tuesday morning at 11:40 a.m.
