Jackson County wins title, beats Union City 48-35

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (AP) — Jaycee Coe showed why she was earned Miss Basketball and tournament MVP honors, pouring in 22 points to power Jackson County to a 48-35 victory over Union City in the Class A girls Tennessee state championship Saturday at Middle Tennessee State University.

The junior guard also grabbed 13 points to give Jackson County (33-3) its first state title since 2010 and its seventh crown since 2000. Jackson County also won the Class A title in 2008 and owned the Class AA crown from 2000-03.

The game's early pace was set by Union City, which led 12-6 after one quarter. But Coe got hot and scored 9 consecutive points in a two-minute stretch as Jackson County outscored Union County 14-4 in the second quarter to build a 20-16 halftime lead.

Union City closed to within 24-20 before Coe went on another tear, scoring 9 of her team's next 14 points to lead 38-23 after three quarters.

Union City (32-4) was led by Jackie Hudson's 12 points while Tori Reedy added 10.
