JACKSON, TENN (JUNE 29, 2010) - The Diamond Jaxx will be well represented at the 2010 Southern League All-Star game in Huntsville, on July 12. Johan Limonta, Carlos Triunfel, Alex Liddi, Carlos Peguero, Steven Hensley, Anthony Varvaro and Michael Pineda were selected to the Southern League North Division All-Star Team today. Liddi and Peguero will be unable to participatedue to their selection to the 2010 XM Futures Game that will be played on July 11, in Los Angeles during the MLB All-Star weekend. Michael Pineda is unable to participate due to his recent promotion to Triple-A Tacoma.Johan Limonta is hitting .291 this season with 6 HR and 52 RBI. Limonta leads the Southern League with 25 doubles and is tied for second in the league in RBI's. Johan is T4th in the Southern League with a .511 slugging percentage. He also has a batting average of .375 with runners in scoring position this year. Limonta is 26 years old from Miami, FL. This is Limonta's first mid-season All-Star selection.
Carlos Triunfel is batting .285 with 5 HR and 29 RBI this season. Carlos has eight doubles this season and has struck out just 34 times in 274 at-bats. Carlos is batting .303 in the month of June. Triunfel was a Midwest League All-Star in 2007.
Steven Hensley is 6-4 on the mound for the Diamond Jaxx and ranks 6th in the Southern League with a 2.59 ERA. Hensley ranks 4th in the Southern League in opponent's batting average, holding the opposition to a .221 batting average. He has struck out 61 in 76.1 innings pitched. Hensley was a 4th round pick by the Mariners in 2008 out of Elon University. This is Steven's first mid-season All-Star selection.
Anthony Varvaro will be making his second consecutive trip to the Southern League All-Star game. Anthony is 1-2 with a 2.65 ERA and 8 saves, while leading the Diamond Jaxx with 27 appearances out of the bullpen. The former 12th round pick by the M's out of St. John's has struck out 38 batters in just 34 innings. He is holding batters to just a .193 batting average against him.
Alex Liddi will not be able to participate due to the Futures Game. Liddi is batting .277 for the Diamond Jaxx primarily at third base and has 6 HR and 52 RBI's. Alex is tied for second in the Southern League in RBI's with his teammate, Johan Limonta. The Italian-born Liddi leads the team with 5 triples and has 19 doubles this season. Liddi is making his second straight trip to the Futures game and was selected last year to the mid-season and post-season California League All-Star teams. Liddi was the Batting Champion and Most Valuable Player in the California League in 2009.
Carlos Peguero will also be heading to the Futures Game. Peguero is hitting .293 with 15 HR and 46 RBI's. Peguero is second behind the promoted Mike Stanton in homers with 15 and is T4th in the league with a .511 slugging percentage. The Dominican native Peguero leads the Southern League with 62 runs scored thus far in 2010. He has also racked up 15 doubles this season. This is Peguero's first mid-season All-Star game selection in his career.
Michael Pineda will be unable to participate due to his recent promotion to Triple-A Tacoma. Pineda was promoted on June 22 and was 8-1 with the leagues third best ERA of 2.22. In 13 starts for the Diamond Jaxx, the Dominican Pineda struck out 78 hitters in 77 innings on the mound. Michael is currently 1-0 with a 2.25 ERA for Triple-A Tacoma in two starts with 16 strikeouts. He is the #1 rated pitching prospect for the Seattle Mariners.
