KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Tennessee has chosen not to clear
redshirt sophomore forward Amber Gray to play basketball with the
Lady Volunteers.
Gray underwent brain surgery last July to clip a brain aneurysm
that had hemorrhaged and caused a stroke. She sat out the entire
2009-10 season as she continued her recovery.
Tennessee officials consulted with medical experts and announced
their decision Tuesday.
Lady Vols athletic director Joan Cronan says she hopes the West
Chester, Ohio, native remains at Tennessee to continue as a
student, but says she will support Gray if she chooses to pursue
playing basketball at another school.
The 6-foot-1 Gray played in 27 games as a freshman in 2008-09,
averaging 2.7 points and 1.9 rebounds in 7.6 minutes per contest.
