The Diamond Jaxx extend player development contract with M’s until 2012
JACKSON, TENN. (September 1, 2010) –
On Tuesday night, the Seattle Mariners and West Tenn Diamond Jaxx announced an extension of their Player Development Contract through the 2012 season.
"We are excited to have an agreement in place that will ensure the continued development of our prospects.” stated Seattle Mariners Director of Minor League Operations, Pedro Grifol. “West Tenn has been and will continue to be a valuable partner as we work to build a championship organization."
The agreement is for a two-year extension to the team’s current affiliation with the Mariners, which was going to expire at the conclusion of the 2010 season. The Seattle and West Tenn partnership began in 2007 and will now be extended to a total of six seasons through 2012.
“We are thrilled to be extending our PDC Agreement with the Seattle Mariners organization for another two years!” said Diamond General Manager, Tom Hanson. “Over the first four years of our relationship with the Mariners they have been absolutely wonderful to work with, which made this a very easy decision for us.
The Diamond Jaxx opened up play in Jackson in 1998, and was affiliated with the National League’s Chicago Cubs for nine seasons, until 2006.
While affiliated with the Mariners, the Jaxx have seen 15 players move on from their time with the Jaxx to play in the majors. Key players on the Mariners’ 2010 roster include Doug Fister, Michael Saunders and Brandon Morrow, who have all spent time with the Diamond Jaxx.
“The Mariners want to be in Jackson, TN which means an awful lot.” added Hanson. “The players and staff that spend the summer with us in Jackson have always been great in our community and represent the Mariners in a very professional way.”
