BARBOURVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Mike Brinkley passed for six touchdowns
and Armond Smith ran for five scores to lead Union (Ky.) in a
high-scoring 84-55 victory over Bethel (Tenn.) in NAIA action on
Saturday.
The 139 points scored by both teams came two points away from
tying an NAIA record for most combined points in a game. The record
is 141 when Southwestern (Kan.) defeated Sterling (Kan.) 79-62 in
1994.
Brinkley completed 18 of 23 passes for 345 yards and two
interceptions for the Bulldogs (3-3), who finished with 12 total
touchdowns. His six passing scores of 14, 74, 7, 11, 26 and 57
yards is a school record.
Smith ran for 312 yards for Union on scoring runs of 2, 8, 59,
55 and 67 yards. He set a single-game school record in rushing
yards and touchdowns on the ground.
Former Jackson North Side Indian Cordarious Mann had 262 yards rushing and five touchdowns in a
losing effort for Bethel (2-4).
