Former Memphis guard Allen arrested

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — A former University of Memphis point guard has been arrested on marijuana possession and other charges. Andre Allen was with the 2008 basketball team until his suspension just before the Final Four. The 25-year-old was pulled over when police noticed that his 1996 Nissan Maxima had a headlight and brake lights out and a dark cover over the license plate. The Commercial Appeal in Memphis reports that police smelled marijuana and Allen admitted that he had been smoking in the car. Police found more of the drug in the car, along with 150 sandwich bags, two scales and $1,300 in cash. Allen is also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, improper lighting on a motor vehicle, violation of the light law and improper display of registration. ___
