Coach Mike Singletary says a separated left shoulder, suffered in
Sunday's loss to Carolina, will keep Alex Smith off the field for 2
to 3 weeks. Troy Smith will get the start over David Carr.

UNDATED(AP) - The U.S. Tennis Association has selected Hall of
Fame tennis player Jim Courier to replace Patrick McEnroe as the
country's Davis Cup captain. The 40-year-old Courier won four Grand
Slam titles and helped the U.S. win the Davis Cup in 1992 and 1995.
The former world No. 1 retired from the pro tour in 2000.
