Tennessee athletes' graduation rate drops slightly

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — The NCAA's annual Graduation Success Rate report shows 74 percent of Tennessee athletes who entered college between 2000 and 2003 earned degrees within six years, down slightly from 76 percent for those Vols who entered school between 1999 and 2002. The NCAA report released Wednesday shows 79 percent of athletes across the nation who entered college between 2000 and 2003 graduated within six years. All athletes in the Lady Vols basketball, cross country/track and field, soccer, tennis and volleyball teams in that period graduated within six years. The Vols basketball team had the lowest six-year graduation rate at 40 percent, followed by baseball at 50 percent and football at 53 percent.
