KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Tennessee freshman defensive end Jacques
Smith has pleaded guilty to an assault charge filed after he
punched and kicked a man at a Knoxville bar.
According to court records, Smith pleaded guilty at his
arraignment Wednesday and received judicial diversion. If he stays
out of trouble for a year, the charge will be removed from his
record.
The Knoxville News Sentinel reported that after entering his
plea, Smith apologized to the victim and his family, who attended
the court hearing.
Volunteers coach Derek Dooley handled Smith's punishment for the
Oct. 31 incident internally.
