Tigers G Barton has broken foot, no surgery needed

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Memphis coach Josh Pastner says junior guard Antonio Barton has a hairline fracture in his right foot, which will not need surgery but will keep him out for four to six weeks.

Spokesman Lamar Chance confirmed that Barton had X-rays and an MRI exam Monday morning revealing the non-displaced hairline avulsion fracture on his right fifth metatarsal. He hurt his foot Saturday in an 89-76 win at Southern Miss, the Tigers' 14th straight victory, which helped Memphis move into the Top 25 on Monday at No. 22.

The Conference USA tournament begins March 13 in Tulsa, so Barton could be back in time for the postseason. He averages 6.2 points per game.

Memphis hosts Central Florida on Wednesday night.

The Commercial Appeal first reported the extent of the injury.

Snedeker wins at Pebble Beach

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (AP) — Brandt Snedeker didn't have to take a back seat to anyone at Pebble Beach.

A runner-up to Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson the last two weeks, Snedeker finished off a command performance Sunday with a 7-under 65 for a two-shot victory over Chris Kirk in the Pebble Beach National Pro-Am. Snedeker tapped in for par on the 18th hole to finish at 19-under 267, setting the tournament record at Pebble Beach.

In five starts this year, Snedeker already has a win, two second-place finishes and a third. The win takes him to a career-best No. 4 in the world.

Kirk closed with a 64, though he never got closer than two shots. James Hahn, tied with Snedeker to start the final round, had a 70 and tied for third.
