Nations number one recruit signs with Ole Miss

OXFORD, Miss. (AP) — The consensus top recruit in the nation Robert Nkemdiche has announced he will attend Mississippi.

The 6-foot-5, 260-pound defensive end from Loganville, Ga., has been on several programs' wish list for more than a year, but Ole Miss appeared to be his destination for months because of close family ties. His brother Denzel Nkemdiche plays for the Rebels and he led the defense with 82 tackles, including 13 for a loss last season.

Wednesday is the first day prep football recruits could officially sign with colleges. Nkemdiche made the announcement in a news conference on ESPNU.

Second-year coach Hugh Freeze led Ole Miss to a 7-6 record last season, improving from a 2-10 mark in 2011.

Lewis rides off into retirement with Super Bowl victory

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Ray Lewis will ride into retirement as a champion.

Baltimore's standout middle linebacker began his final night on the football field with a motivational speech to his teammates. He ended it looking upward into a shower of silver streamers and purple confetti after the Ravens beat the San Francisco 49ers 34-31 Sunday night to win the Super Bowl.

Standing tall in the middle of a defense that survived a frenzied comeback by Colin Kaepernick and the 49ers, Lewis put a lovely bow on his 17th NFL season by earning his second Super Bowl ring — 12 years after the first.

Lewis was the MVP of the Super Bowl when Baltimore beat the Giants.

On Sunday night, Lewis and his defense played a supporting role to Joe Flacco and the offense.
