LONDON (AP) — Three professional soccer players are among nine people found guilty in a British horse racing scandal.
The investigation centered on allegations that jockey Andrew Heffernan fixed races between Nov. 1, 2010, and March 31, 2011.
Heffernan was found to have received bribes, given inside information and prevented three horses from running at their best.
Ipswich striker Michael Chopra and former Manchester United midfielder Mark Wilson were found guilty of offering bribes to Heffernan. Along with Doncaster midfielder James Coppinger, they were also found guilty of placing bets based on information provided by Heffernan that his horse would lose.
NEW YORK (AP) — Manti Te'o told Katie Couric the feelings he had for what turned out to be a fake, online girlfriend were real and reiterated he had nothing to do with the hoax.
The All-American linebacker said he was truly sorrowful and pained after finding out the woman he knew as Lennay Kekua died in September.
Te'o's once-heartwarming tale of inspired play after the deaths of his grandmother and girlfriend on the same day in September was exposed as a bizarre hoax on Jan. 16. Deadspin.com broke the news that the woman Te'o had claimed to be in love with did not exist.
Te'o, who led Notre Dame to a spot in the national championship, has admitted that when his girlfriend's "death" became a story, he misled reporters into thinking he had met her in the flesh.
The star player recounted the whole, strange episode in an interview with Couric that was broadcast Thursday.

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The American Civil Liberties Union of Louisiana is suing to block the city of New Orleans from maintaining a so-called "clean zone" where the use of banners, signs and flags will be restricted during Super Bowl festivities.
The ACLU filed a federal lawsuit Thursday on behalf of an activist and a street preacher who claim the city's enforcement of a new ordinance and a code enforcement guide will trample on their free speech rights and limit their activities in the days leading up to the Feb. 3 football championship game.
The ACLU claims the city adopted the new policies at the behest of the NFL.
A federal judge didn't immediately act on the group's request for a court order barring the city from enforcing the "clean zone" limits.
