Man Charged in Friday Evening Shooting

Willie Brown on charges of aggravated assault, possession of a stolen weapon and related charges. Brown is charged with shooting 29-year-old Thomas Mays Jr. in the arm.. Mays was shot at the Shell Station at 253 Airways Blvd. on Friday. Police records state that Brown had previously made an inappropriate overture to Mays' wife. Brown's bond was set at $75,000.


Willie D. Brown, age 56 of N. Fairground Street, has been arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault for shooting 29 year old Thomas Mays Jr. in the arm at the Shell Station at 253 Airways Boulevard about 8:05 last night.

The two men argued when Mays confronted Brown for a previous incident where Brown made an inappropriate overture to Mr. May’s wife. Brown who was reportedly seated in his vehicle shot Mays who was standing beside the vehicle.

Mays was transported and treated at a local hospital.

Willie Brown called Police from his home. He turned himself and the gun in to Officers when they arrived. His pistol was determined to have been reported stolen.

Willie Brown is being held at the Madison County Jail on a $75,000 bond. He will be formally arraigned at 8:00 am Monday on the Aggravated Assault, Stolen Weapon and related charges in City Court.
